F. MICHAEL SIKES, P.E., LLC provides structural engineering solutions for a variety of commercial, industrial, education, and residential building projects throughout the southeast. Located in Savannah, GA, our firm is well versed in high wind engineering and the complexities associated with “continuous load path” requirements of the International Building Code, having designed structures in coastal regions from North Carolina to Florida and along the Gulf coast in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Seismic design is another area of expertise offered by our firm. With Charleston, SC, where maximum considered earthquake ground motions nearing 200% g (acceleration due to gravity) being located approximately 125 miles northeast of Savannah, our designs must also satisfy the ductility requirements mandated by state and national building codes. We have worked as consultants to multiple architects and engineers throughout the southeast providing straightforward solutions to complex problems.
Every project begins with understanding our client’s expectations. In addition to building code design requirements, several other variables are considered when determining the building system design, such as owner preference, location, and accessibility. Whether the design utilizes reinforced concrete masonry, structural steel framing, concrete framing, conventional wood framing, heavy timber framing, light-gauge metal framing or a combination of several systems, the costs associated with each are taken into consideration when recommending the most efficient structural system to our client.
